FIS Couture | Wearable Art

Within the theme Colour Vision and going with red as our main colour, a symbol of power and wealth, I decided to recycle ‘lai see’ packets, or just known as ‘red packets’ just right after Chinese New Year. Many were littering our houses and eventually would have ended up in the bin despite having been used once. It was time to think about sustainable development, recycling and creativity!
Through our design, I wanted to intertwine structure as well as femininity and culture. I was also greatly inspired by the Japanese culture of samurais and geishas. I added structure to their design by layering the red packets over one another, and imitating samurai armour, and giving the dress a rather rigid look. Wearing a geisha inspired headpiece, and a golden fan as an accessory, Zoe was stunning on the catwalk with her Asian oriented design look named ‘Red Warrior’!

I attended a life drawing workshop and we were instructed to draw the model overlapping multiple times with varying tones. Later, I worked with other materials like chinagraph pencils, pastels and acrylics to work some detail into the piece.
I was captured by some of the strong lines and colour blocking of the previous piece so I tried to recreate some of the parts of the last piece into a digital recreation. Based on that recreation, I made a painting of just the lines of the last painting with some last-minute fluidity and movement.
it’s a hoax! | Mixed Media on recycled Cardboard
2021 | Hong Kong
This piece was started during mid-pandemic - I lived in Hong Kong so although other countries were easing coronavirus measures, Hong Kong was still undergoing several lockdown stages. On top of that the capitol protests, anti-mask rallies and antivax protests were all occuring at the same time. It was a pretty stressful and even hectic part of life since I was also facing my final exams for highschool.
For the background of this piece, I used several newspaper headlines and articles about the current issues of the world - the 'HOAX' stencil was a reproduction of a sign that a protester was holding, made using spray paint.

Identity : Roots | Mixed media
2021 | Hong Kong
Personal exploration of my roots - the countries I have grown up in. The images above are close up photos of various stages of collaging, drawing and general mixed-media work for this project.
Close up of 'roots' joining Mauritius and Hong Kong. I was born in Mauritius and moved to Hong Kong when I was 13 so they both hold a lot of importance for me. Hidden between the maps is a map of India, which is my nationality and where my family lives.

Commisioned Paintings | Acrylic on various frames
2019-2022 | Hong Kong
Warli Painting | White acrylic and terracota poster paint on recycled wood panel | 100 x 100 cm
I did this based on Warli paintings, a traditional form of tribal folk art from central India where I am from.
lamandiva| Acrylic on canvas | 50 x 60 cm
An observational painting of a brass oil lamp used during ceremonies
Dixits | Built up acrylic wash and calligraphy pen on canvas | 40 x 40 cm
A painting of my dad's ancestral home
This was a fun piece to make - the collage in the top left reads 'Dixit House' and along with the other collages is part of an article written about the home.
Buddha | Acrylic on canvas | 91 x 121 cm
This was a commision I made for a family friend. It was a very fun process, although this was the biggest piece I have done so far. The scale of the piece made it very difficult to keep things symmetrical and the painting even.

Digital Work | Procreate on iPad
2019-2022 | Hong Kong

A set of digital portraits I made of my grandparents, although they are somewhat unfinished. It was a pretty cool experience as I never really draw in black and white on my iPad, but it was quite difficult to find the right brushes to get the textures I wanted.
photographic memories | Installation and digital collage
This was a project I made in collaboration with some of my classmates for our photography and cinema theory class. it is based on Elizabeth Edwards' text about photographs as objects of memory.
My group decided to compile individual objects that represent adulthood to us individually, and then make a shrine with all of our objects.
Special 20th Anniversary Edition! | Procreate
A digital painting I did of my parents' wedding and engagement for their 20th wedding anniversary.
